THE REGIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM...................1 km Located on Batenberg Square - the old town center. In 1887 the Russophiles rising begun there. Around the square there are building being national cultural monuments - among them is the Museum, The Secondary School, the Library. In the middle of the garden you will find the Monument of the fallen in the Bulgarian-Serbian War-it is the most honored soldier*s monument in the region. It was set up in 1901 - its creators were Zheko Spiridonov and architect N.Lazarov. The building of the Museum, intended to be District Administration was built by architect Fr.Grunanger in 1882. He is the person who later reconstructed the Sofia town hall into a king*s palace. It is the first administration building, built for that purpose after the Liberation. The Secondary School for boys was built in 1898 after the design of architect Petko Momchilov. Stoian Mihailovski wrote the words of the song *Go ahead revived nation* when he was a teacher in this school. The building of *L.Karavelov* Regional Library designed by architect N.Lazarov, was build in 1911 - it was the first Bulgarian Trade and Industrial Camber. Since the Ottoman times has remained the building of the Museum Directorate /once upon a time-a Vilyaet Administration/, behind it was the Prison, and next to it-the barracks. MUSEUM OF THE TOWN STYLE OF LIVING...........................3 km permanent exhibition that shows the style living and the culture of Rousse at the end of living and the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century and the penetration of new European influences. The exhibition presents typical interiors of Rousse town house. Collections - European porcelain and glass from 19 century. *OBRETENOVI* MUSEUM EXCEBITION in *Zahari Stoqnov* House-Museum.......................2.5 km Dedicated to the Bulgarian Renaissance and the live of Baba Tonka Obretenova and her family, which is directly related to the national-liberation movements and the social life in Rousse after the Liberation. You can see guns, personal belongings of Obretenovi and Zahari Stoyanov, and a great number of documents, pictures and portraits. The exhibition is a unique illustration of the national maturing of the Bulgarians. Collections - blank weapons and firearms from 18th, 19th and 20th centure. PANTHEON OF THE WRITERS OF THE BULGARION NATIONAL REVIVAL.....................................3.5 km A monument-charnel house of Bulgarian revolutionists and cultural figures and educationalists. The Pantheon keeps the boons of the elite that formed the national idea in Bulgarians-the writers-revolutionists Lyuben Karavelov and Z.Stoyanov, Baba Tonka, A.Kanchev, the voivodes Stefan Karadzha, P.Hitov etc. On the Easter Day of 2001 in the building of the Pantheon was opened an all day chapel *St.Paisiy Hilendarski* and an exhibition of documents for the history of VSI SVETII /All Saints/ Church and the construction of the Pantheon. ROMAN FORTRESS SEXAGINTA PRISTA................................0.5 km and naval station, which was working from 1st to the beginning of 7th century. Except the fortress defences /battle tower, north fortress wall, barracks and store premises/ the exposition consists curious ancient stone inscriptions, architectural decorations and tombstone monuments. The complex is situated near River station. MUSEUM HALL *THOMA KARDJIEV*..................2 km Archeological exhibition *Rousse region at the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom* /13th -14th century/. The exhibition hall shows the achievements of Rousse region at the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom /13th-14th centuries/ MUSEUM OF TRANSPORT...........................4 km It is located on the first railway station in Bulgaria, beyond the Youths Park. The Station dates from 1866 when the railway Rousse-Varna was built. The exhibition represents the development of the rail and river transport in Bulgaria. At the platforms in front of the station one may see a number of locomotives and carriages among which is the first locomotive and the saloon-carriage of Sultan Abdul Azis from 1866, as well as a carriage of King Boris III and of Marshal Tolbuhin. THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF CHERVEN......................................38 km It is an important administrative, military, trade and Episcopal center from the times of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. The results from the archeological excavations, exhibited for the visitors give correct idea for the character of the Medieval Cherven, for its urban development, the specificities of its public and housing architecture, for the style of living of its public and housing architecture, for the style of living of its population.
